NY4BL Virtual Beer Tasting and Brewery Tour Was Fun for All

Update:  102 library supporters and beer drinkers were present online for the NY4BL BeerTasting and Brewery Tour.  The beer was delicious, the company was sublime, and the NY4BL netted over $10,000 for its library advocacy program.  Special thanks are in order to the PUBLIC LIBRARY ASSOCIATION OF SUFFOLK COUNTY for its sponsorship of the event.

—————————————————————————-

NYLA’s Library Advocacy Day is virtual this year and, NEVER wanting to be left out of the fun, the New Yorkers for Better Libraries are hosting our Annual Fundraising Gala the night before in the best way we can think of – with a beer tasting and virtual tour of Buffalo’s Big Ditch Brewing Company!

3 tiers of tickets are available and 2 of them include a tasting box shipped directly to you (New York State addresses only). All 3 include a virtual tour of the brewery, brand and beer with Matt Kahn, President/Owner of Big Ditch Brewing Company. Tasting box tickets should be purchased by February 14 to ensure that it arrives at your door in time for the February 25 event.  You can register for this unique event at https://ny4blgala2021.givesmart.com/

It’s very difficult to ensure that our voices are being heard in Albany during budget discussions. This year will be particularly challenging with 43 newly elected legislators and the ongoing COVID pandemic. We need your help to capture new legislators’ attention and retain the support of our existing champions. It is essential that we be at the table when decisions about the future of libraries occur, and your donations will help make that happen. Please go to https://ny4blgala2021.givesmart.com/ to register!

Not a beer drinker and/or not available that night? Please consider making a donation of any amount to support the work of NY4BL as we head into a challenging 2021 budget year.  You can donate at the bottom of the page at https://ny4blgala2021.givesmart.com/

What a Grand Time

No, weren’t there in person, but our Kinda Karaoke was a virtual blast.    Our star performers, Jeremy Johannesen and the NYLA staff exceeded all expectations and helped raise over $3000 that can be used to help the library community’s voice be heard in Albany this coming budget cycle.  Thanks to all who donated and voted, and special thanks to to Jeremy and his wonderful staff!  It’s never to late to help out with a donation by clicking here.

KINDA KARAOKE HAPPY HOUR: VOTING NOW OPEN

CLICK HERE TO VOTE…REMEMBER EVERY VOTE COUNTS AND THERE IS NO LIMIT TO THE NUMBER OF TIMES YOU CAN VOTE.

We are sad that we can’t all be in the same zip code for the NYLA Conference this year, and we are especially sad that we won’t see (hear?) you at our Karaoke fundraiser

But have no fear! Karaoke is still kinda happening and you can still support New Yorkers for Better Libraries!

Karaoke is kinda happening in the sense that there will be one brave soul regaling us with his singing prowess this year, and he’ll be on a live stream at 5 pm on Friday, November 6. He may or may not be in costume, but he will definitely be singing at least one song. And the best thing is that you all get to vote on what song or songs he’ll be singing and support the PAC at the same time.

NYLA’s fearless Executive Director Jeremy Johannesen, always confident in his ability to pull off the #bestconferenceever, has agreed to this nonsense because he knows how important NY4BL is going to be as we head into a challenging 2021 budget year. He’s chosen 6 songs, and you can vote as many times as you like ($20 donation per vote).

Everyone who votes/donates will be sent a Zoom invitation the morning of the November 6 live stream event.

In these unique and unprecedented times New York’s libraries need your support now more than ever. The upcoming budget cycle promises to be one of the most challenging that we, as a library community, have ever faced.  In order to be sure that our voices are heard we are asking you to consider making a donation to the New Yorkers For Better Libraries PAC to ensure that libraries have “a seat at the table” during upcoming State budget negotiations.

AND THE VOTING IS NOW OPEN!   CLICK HERE TO VOTE!

Needless to say,  we miss our friends and colleagues in the library community very much, and hope to see everyone as soon as possible.

History Happy Hour: Christmas with the Donner Party tickets now on sale

On Christmas Day in 1846, the Donner Party – a group of pioneers who infamously resorted to cannibalism after becoming trapped in the Sierra Nevada – prayed to God for the end of their gnawing hunger.  Join historian Maya Rook and New Yorkers for Better Libraries for an exploration of their journey westward and winter entrapment in the mountains, with a special focus on how they spent Christmas…and what they ate for dinner.
